Q. Did you see the collision between the "Alexander" and the junk on March 28, 1903?
A. Yes.
Q. Did you have lines passed over your port bow to this junk?
A. Yes.
Q. Did they take the lines?
A. No. I told the boatswain to tell them to take the lines and take a turn with them. The boatswain is a Chinaman.
Q. Apparently no effort was made by the Chinese on the junk to secure your lines?
A. None whatever.
Q. Did you see the extent of damage done?
A. Yes. It looked like a crack and did not make a clean hole through her.
Q. Did she seem to be rapidly filling?
A. No.
Q. If the junk had kept on her course, do you think the "Alexander" would have cleared her?
A. Yes.
Q. About how much way were you making through the water?
A. According to my idea, we were hardly making a knot.
